About Me

I was born in Southern California and moved to Modesto just before my 16th birthday. After graduating from a University of California, I attended medical school at UC San Diego. I had plans to go into medicine many years before I entered college. I had always been amazed at how calm and smart my own pediatrician was. In addition, it was clear that my parents had a great deal of respect for him as well. Fascination, parental encouragement, and my gregarious nature made medicine a natural fit for me.

After medical school, I did my residency at Kaiser Foundation Hospital in Fontana, California. It wasn't until I was in private practice, however, that I really appreciated the benefits of the Kaiser Permanente Health Plan. The comprehensive care and your own doctor's control over your care - rather than a claims administrator -was clearly the best way to practice medicine. I also didn't like patients having to make important medical decisions based on whether or not they had met their deductible for the year. I rejoined Kaiser Permanente over 15 years ago and it was the best decision I ever made.

My Philosophy of Care

I have enjoyed the freedom to practice quality medical care as I determined best for my patients. While I feel my part in a patient's care is important, I firmly believe that patients must actively participate in their own care. To assist them, I provide as much information, explained in non-medial terms, to help the two of us decide how best to treat them. I encourage input from important family and friends, provided the patient agrees. It is only by treating the whole patient that I can truly provide the best care for them.

Select a personal physician - An important part of your health care experience at Kaiser Permanente includes building a relationship with your personal physician. If you haven't already selected one or want to change, click here to choose a personal physician for yourself or for a family member.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
