My Biography

As a child growing up in San Francisco, my father enrolled our family in Kaiser Permanente. It was a powerful testament to their quality and scope of care, and played heavily in my decision to join The Permanente Medical Group when I started practicing. For over 30 years, my parents, brothers, and more recently my wife plus young son have received extraordinary care. I feel honored to have the opportunity for nearly sixteen years to practice medicine for such a healthcare organization.

When Kaiser Permanente started a hospitalist program at Redwood City in 1997, I became a hospital-based specialist taking care of acutely ill patients. I feel that Kaiser Permanente’s integrative model allows me to work with subspecialist, nurses and other professionals in providing quality service to my patients in the inpatient setting.

I practice what I preach by working out at a nearby gym 4 to 6 times weekly. Some of my patients can attest to seeing me sweating away there. In addition, I closely follow American politics plus San Francisco professional sports teams, although lately the latter have been trying my patience.

My home page is linked to conditions that commonly need hospitalization. Explanations as to what they are and how they are treated in the hospital environment are provided.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
