My Biography

I was born and raised in the Bronx, and no, I’m not a Yankee fan. My family and I have always rooted for the Mets. My parents are from Yabucoa, Puerto Rico, the Island that produced Ricky Martin and Pablo Casals. I spent many summers with my family in Puerto Rico, which I consider my second home. I am bilingual (Spanish and English) and bicultural.

During the last year of my training, I married Mariedda. In 1990 we moved to the Bay Area. Although the Bay Area was still recovering from the 1989 earthquake, we fell in love with the people and beautiful landscape here.

I am most impressed with the high quality of care patients receive at Kaiser Permanente. The anesthesia equipment is always state of the art and cutting edge. My colleagues are all well trained and we all help each other with very difficult anesthetic issues through a team approach for challenging cases.

In 2002 my career progressed to include Cardio-Thoracic anesthesia. I have received special training in Transesophageal Echo Cardiography and anesthesia for “beating heart surgery”. I am proud to have been recognized as one of California’s Top Doctors and have been selected by Bay Area Consumers as a highly recommended anesthesiologist.

I could not have accomplished these recognitions without the support and love of my family, my wife Mariedda, son Guillermo, daughter Gabriela, and dog Kobi. I enjoy traveling, cooking, and old cars.

If you require my services, you can be assured you will receive professional, highly qualified, and compassionate care.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
