My Biography

San Francisco Medical Center’s Immunohistochemistry Laboratory is the sole Kaiser Permanente facility offering immunohistochemistry consultations. At this medical center, we have some of the best pathologists in the country working for our members. In addition to the challenging consultation service, the heterogeneous population, the multicultural offerings, the wide variety of cuisines, and the temperate climate all help us to attract some of the best physicians to our facility.

I enjoy collegial relationships with both physicians and support staff in this department. I find that, working within Kaiser Permanente’s health care model, pathologists are able to focus on actually practicing medicine and as pathologists, and we maintain a broad exposure to different medical fields, an uncommon opportunity in most specialties.

I approach immunodiagnosis as I would a logic puzzle. I enjoy the means (puzzle-solving aspect) as well as the end (arriving at a solid diagnosis that helps the patient receive appropriate therapy). I see extremely unusual cases on a regular basis, which keeps my work continually challenging and interesting. It is rewarding to know that doing work that I love can help improve the health of our members.

I believe in a positive outlook on life, and I aim for affirmative interactions with the people with whom I work. When I am outside of the medical center, I enjoy quilting, knitting, cooking, swimming, and playing the cello. I have been married for 30 years, and we have three purebred Bengal cats: Casey, Kimiko, and Emily!

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
