My Background

I grew up in the Midwest, attending the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine. After completing an internal medicine residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Milwaukee, I relocated to California for additional three years training in Infectious Diseases at Stanford. Infectious Diseases is one of the smallest subspecialties for most hospitals. However, close to 30 other infectious disease specialists from Northern California Kaiser are available to share cases and their expertise.

My clinical interests include diagnostic microbiology and travel medicine. New diseases and health issues have unfolded during my years of training. These include AIDS, toxic shock, bioterrorism, SARS, etc. Practicing infectious diseases involves working with just about every medical specialty and service.

About Me

Like many physicians, my personal life is kept secluded from the professional responsibilities. Sports, home maintenance, forays into cooking, and some travel fill my spare time.

My Philosophy Of Care

Just as people age, the practice of medicine is never what it quite was just the year before. People live, change, heal, and grow older. Unlike cars or personal computers, our bodies don’t always do what we had hoped. Trying to regain our health and keep it that way can be challenging. In difficult times, remaining objective and paying attention to details is very important.

A Reminder

We often overlook seemingly small safety issues everyday. We continue to see many personal injuries and accidents that followed forgetting or disregarding basic safety advice. Too many people like to drive without seatbelts as well as talk on their cell phones. Many home “handy-men” have admitted that their accidents with tools followed disregarding long understood precautions.

We also like broccoli and other healthy nutrition habits. If we treated ourselves half as well as some people do their cars, we’d all live better.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
