Welcome To My Home Page !
In the Emergency Department, our members are evaluated for a complete range of conditions, from stubbed toes to life-threatening conditions. Sometimes the experience is very straightforward, but when you or your loved one's illness is complex, I hope our terrific staff and I can make it less frightening by answering your questions.
We hope you will understand that our most ill members will draw much of our attention. And on days when the emergency room seems particularly busy, trust that we are doing as much as possible to expedite your care. Also, especially on those busy days, we hope you will understand that permitting one family member in each examination room allows us to facilitate the evaluation and treatment. Oftentimes, there may be several staff members and a whole host of equipment competing for the same space. More importantly, confidentiality and rights to privacy, will determine with whom we may share information.
Access to information allows me, when possible, to make a diagnosis and plan a course of treatment. While our electronic medical record is the most sophisticated I have used since I completed training in emergency medicine, there is no substitute for a detailed account of one's illness. Indeed, it is extremely important for the member herself or himself to provide most, if not all, of the information about the current illness. Additional details are always appreciated from close family members. Much less commonly, when a member is unable to provide information which may be critical, we will look to family and friends to fill in important information. Additionally, it is always a good idea to have available a current list of prescribed medications, as well as over-the- counter medications, you are taking. Having this list with you whenever you seek medical care here at our Kaiser Permanente Fresno Medical Center, or when you are traveling, will help your providers.
While we hope you and your loved ones will never develop a serious illness, should you have occasion to seek care in the Emergency Department, trust that we will strive to make your experience characterized by exceptional care and sensitivity.
Lastly, you will find additional information by clicking on the links to the left, and by clicking the "Get health advice" tab. And often, I can be reached in the Emergency Department.
On days when I am not in the hospital, I am more likely to be on a leisurely hike, with my nephews, listening to smooth jazz, or enjoying a cool mountain breeze.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
