Welcome to my home page!

My name is Bob Lowell and I am part of the Hospital Based Services Department at Kaiser San Rafael. As hospital based specialists, or hospitalists, my colleagues and I specialize in treating patients with acute illness that require inpatient hospitalization. As such we serve as a representative to primary care physicians and likewise keep them informed as to the status of their patients during an inpatient stay. We also help to coordinate and interface with various other specialists that are likely to be involved in a patient’s care.

I’m proud to be a member of such a dedicated group of physicians and staff that we have throughout the medical center. I’ve been practicing with Kaiser since 1997 and have been the department chief since 2003. Prior to that, I practiced medicine at a community clinic in San Diego for five years. Before I attended medical school and subsequent internship and residency I attended UCLA and earned a degree in Psychobiology.

I love practicing medicine with Kaiser Permanente. Our integrated care system provides our membership with the best vehicle for care and treatment. It is also invaluable to us as physicians in knowing that we have the support and resources to supply our patients with the best medical care available in an efficient manner. With the entire spectrum of outstanding specialists at our disposal we know that a patient will be seen in a timely manner without the red tape commonly associated with private practice and third party insurance. Often a member can be overwhelmed with the complexities of the healthcare industry and we do our best to limit what can already be a chaotic and emotional situation. This leaves the member able to concentrate greater efforts in their recuperation and general well being.

In my free time I enjoy running, camping, skiing and basically everything that Northern California has to offer. Thanks for visiting me on the web. If you haven’t already, I hope you have a few minutes to explore the vast web-based resources we are able to provide. Kaiser does a great job on helping to educate people on a myriad of health topics. This effort doesn’t simply concentrate on dealing with and managing illness, but also has a huge emphasis on topics that encourage healthy lifestyles that can often thwart the need for ongoing care and inpatient hospitalization. Please take advantage of all we are able to offer.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
