# About Me

I joined the staff of The Permanente Medical Group in July 2001. Previously, I was an Assistant Professor and Director of the Endovascular Program in the Division of Vascular Surgery at the University Hospital at Stony Brook in New York.

I grew up and went to medical school in India. I graduated from medical school in 1984, finishing in the top five percent of my class at the Armed Forces Medical College in Pune, India, considered one of premier medical institutions in the country. After my internship and a year of surgical residency in India, I moved to Great Britain, where I completed my training in General Surgery. I was inducted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England as well as the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh the same year. During my training in England, I developed an interest in vascular surgery and pursued further training in this field for the next two years, prior to moving to the USA.

I moved to the United States in 1990 to pursue research into the biology of blood vessels and worked with a scientist as a Research Associate for three years at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, one of the leading centers for cardiovascular disease in the world. In order to continue my clinical work in America, I had to repeat my surgical training here. I completed my General Surgical training from Georgetown University in Washington DC and Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. I then went on to complete my Fellowship training in Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). This included training at the University of Lundh in Malmo, Sweden.

After completing my training in the USA, I was on faculty as an Assistant Professor and Program Director of the Endovascular Program at the University Hospital at Stony Brook NY and the Long Island Veterans Administrations Medical Center. I was also the Associate Director of the Non-invasive Vascular Laboratory at these medical facilities. I am board certified in General surgery and Vascular Surgery by the American Board of Surgery.

The Department of Surgery at Kaiser Santa Clara is affiliated with the Stanford University Medical School and the Surgical Residency Program. I am a Clinical Associate Professor appointment at Stanford University Medical Center, as well as at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF).

My Interests

My research interests include stroke, aortic aneurysms, Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) and minimally invasive approaches to vascular disease. I have authored more than 25 articles in peer-reviewed journals as well as presented my research on various aspects of vascular disease at several national and international meetings. I am married and live with my wife and two children in Menlo Park. My personal interests include photography and art. I speak English and conversational Hindi.

I want to be certain that all of your concerns are addressed. If you forgot to ask a question during your visit, you may leave a message for me at the departmental line at (408) 851-2000 and either I or one of my staff will return your call.
