My Biography

I earned a bachelor’s degree in the History of Science at Brown University, where I developed an understanding of the human dimensions of science and technology and studied how best to use these endeavors to improve the quality of our lives. During medical training at University of California, San Francisco and psychiatric training at the University of New Mexico, I was especially interested in how my patients experienced their illnesses, and how they utilized and understood their medicines. I developed a deep respect for the inherent healing potential in each of my patients, and began to understand my role as a facilitator in helping patients tap into their potential for innate healing. I prescribe medications in this spirit – as a device to help push aside hindrances to patients’ own natural healing potentials. For many of my patients, medications are only one part of recovery and often an important first step in the healing process.

I have a special interest in working with patients who are utilizing complementary approaches in addition to the care they receive from me. I also have a special interest in helping patients recover from chemical dependency.

In my personal time, I enjoy reading historical, religious and spiritual non-fiction, practicing mindfulness meditation, appreciating nature and spending time with my family and friends.
