Hello and thank you for visiting my website!

My name is Richard Rodriguez, MD. I am an emergency medicine physician covering both the Kaiser Permanente Medical Centers in Hayward and Fremont. Most of the time I am in the main emergency department, but on occasion you can find me working in minor injury clinic at Hayward too.

I recently relocated to the Bay Area to join Kaiser Permanente in July 2005. Prior to this I was in Lansing, Michigan completing my residency in emergency medicine at Sparrow Hospital. I enjoyed my time in Michigan, and will miss the beautiful fall foliage and great fishing, but I am pleased to be back in my home state of California where I don’t have to shovel snow for six months each year!

I chose to pursue emergency medicine because it gives me the ability to help a variety of people. Each day is different and challenging and I always strive to give my patients the best care possible since I know that is what I would want if my own family were in the same situation. I‘m pleased to have the opportunity to serve the Spanish speaking community in the Hayward and Fremont region and hope my fluency in the language make them more at ease when facing a medical emergency.

Working at Kaiser Permanente provides me with the ability to see essentially all parts of my patient’s file. This helps me practice a higher level of care since I have as much information as possible at my finger tips to do my job. I really enjoy working with the other doctors, nurses and support staff in the emergency department. They are a terrific, hard working, and fun group and I’m glad to call them my colleagues.

In my free time I enjoy reading, listening to jazz and blues music, watching sports (I’m a big Cal fan).

My Credentials

Medical school Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI
Residency Sparrow Hospital, Lansing, MI
Board certification Emergency Medicine, American Board of Emergency Medicine

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
