About Me

The art and science of medicine have, for me, always been much like solving a mystery in a detective novel. I've always enjoyed the way fictional sleuths reason through a given set of data to arrive at conclusions and solutions. As a diagnostic radiologist I spend most of my time analyzing images within a given clinical setting. I use the information gleaned from X-rays, CT scans, MRI, or ultrasound to help our members' primary care and specialist physicians arrive at solutions to problems which their patients may be having. Although my work is generally behind the scenes, and my direct interaction with patients is minimal, I enjoy my role as a consultant to our Kaiser Permanente physicians and health care providers.

Kaiser Permanente is wonderfully organized to allow almost seamless integration among all the health care providers and specialties, making my role in a member's care very efficient and effective. Communication between myself and those whom I help with various "medical mysteries," whether routine or difficult, is quick and constant.

Outside my work at Kaiser Permanente I enjoy many pursuits, including winemaking. I have planted 60 vines and I pick, crush, and ferment a sometimes drinkable Super Tuscan style Vino Rosso. I have practiced a traditional style of Japanese karate for years and I am involved with teaching Shotokan karate in the evenings and on weekends. Cooking, dining, and enjoying my family are daily rewards which I cherish.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
