My Specialty and Why I Chose It

I am an anesthesiologist. This means I am a physician dedicated to preoperative evaluation to insure a patient is ready to have an operative procedure. I am also responsible for the administration of medicine to relieve pain before, during and after surgery. During surgery I help maintain vital important life functions such as breathing, heart rhythm and blood pressure. I decided to become an anesthesiologist because of my love for human physiology and procedural based medicine.

My Practice Philosophy

I believe in a whole person approach to medical care. Even though I only have a short time to spend with each patient while they are awake, I like to take that opportunity to discuss methods of lifestyle improvement that may prevent the need for future surgery. These short opportunities for discussing wellness can lead to improved health.

My Tenure with Kaiser Permanente

I have been a Kaiser Permanente physician since 2009. I am very appreciative of the KP emphasis on wellness and preventive care. I was previously in private practice in the Sacramento area for 8 years. I chose to join the Kaiser Permanente system because the schedule allowed me to focus on my family including my two young sons. I believe that working in a family friendly environment leads to improved care for my patients.

My Professional Interests & Affiliations

  • American Board of Anesthesiologists

On a Personal Note. . .

I was raised in southern California in a town where the local hospital was the largest employer. My parents were medical professionals who worked there. It was not long before I developed an interest in health, wellness and medical care. My first job after I could drive was working at the inpatient pharmacy at the local hospital. This further increased my knowledge and interest in all things involving medicine. Soon I was off to college on a pre-medical track with a minor in music.

It was there that I met my future wife who was also on a pre-medical track. We both were accepted to Loma Linda University where we did our medical training and completed our respective residencies. I completed training in anesthesiology and she finished a Masters in Public health degree as well as a board certification in preventive medicine. A short time later we decided that the Sacramento area was a good fit for our active lifestyle and would make a great place to raise our two sons.
