Welcome to my Home Page. I hope you will find the information here helpful to you. After an Emergency Department visit, I would particularly encourage you to look at the section on the left side of this page on Post ER Care Instructions. The section on prevention is also useful, and the Health Encyclopedia contains a wealth of Health Care information (a 30,000 page reference).

About Me

I grew up in Philadelphia, obtained a BA in Biology & Fine Arts from Syracuse University, and an MD from the University of Pennsylvania. I was a Medical Resident at Mt Zion Hospital in San Francisco. After my residency I decided to practice Emergency Medicine. I found that I greatly enjoyed the variety and pace of emergency practice, especially in Kaiser Permanente where excellent specialty consultation and patient follow-up was always available.

I joined the Permanente Medical Group in 1974, and served on its Board of Directors from 1989 to 1998. I was Board Certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine in 1992, and re-certfied in 2002.

I value Kaiser Permanente's strong emphasis on prevention, and believe we continue to be very much at the forefront of medical practice in the US. We are pioneering many innovations in care delivery, and soon will have the largest and one of the most advanced electronic medical record systems in the country. These innovations continually improve the ability of our physicians and staff to provide our members with exceedingly high quality and affordable care.

I am married and have three grown children. I enjoy traveling, good novels, and antiquing.

Disclaimer
If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
