My Biography

I learned about genetic counseling after completing my undergraduate degree. I was interested in science, but knew that I did not want to work with rats in a research lab. I enjoy working with people and, at first, thought about going into the field of marriage and family therapy. Discovering genetic counseling on a graduate school website finally combined all of my interests.

After completing my graduate degree in genetic counseling, I joined the Genetics department at Kaiser Permanente San Francisco. I had lived in southern California almost my whole life and couldn’t wait to make the move to San Francisco. Having been at Kaiser San Francisco for four years, I really appreciate this facility’s terrific team of genetic counselors and doctors. This was my first job after graduate school and I continue to find working at Kaiser Permanente both rewarding and challenging. It is very exciting to be a part of Kaiser Permanente’s innovative implementation of computer charting and online patient services at kp.org. This enables us to coordinate patient care much more efficiently between the patient Genetics, and other Departments.

In my capacity as a genetic counselor, I see a wide range of patients, mainly in prenatal and pediatric settings. I enjoy the diversity of the patients in the Bay Area and find meeting their needs to be a fulfilling role for me. Helping patients through stressful, difficult and life-changing experiences has taught me much about the strength and resilience of the human spirit.
