My Biography
I came to Kaiser Permanente because I was interested in working alongside doctors to help patients better manage their medicines and disease. As a clinical pharmacist, I monitor my patients’ diseases and lab results, and start or adjust their medicines under protocol. I enjoy my work because I like teaching and seeing my patients “get it” – seeing them understand how to take care of themselves and how to take their medicines correctly. I am delighted when my patients get their cholesterol, diabetes, or blood pressure under control. Both my colleagues and patients are a diverse, multiethnic group of people who are fun to work with! I am a San Francisco native—the oldest of five girls—and my family still lives around the Bay Area.
In the Prevent Heart Attack and Stroke Everyday (PHASE) program, I work with patients who are at increased risk for heart attack and/or stroke. Many of my patients have diabetes and/or heart disease, areas in which I am particularly interested. I am also interested in HIV, which was a focus of my research during my residency. Besides working at the 2238 Geary clinic, I spend about half my time at the Anticoagulation Clinic at 4131 Geary (French campus) monitoring patients who take warfarin (Coumadin), a blood thinner.
During my leisure time, I like flying kites at the beach, camping during winter in Yosemite, and reading. Two of my favorite fiction authors are Jane Austen and LM Montgomery. I keep healthy and active by drinking lots of water and walking whenever possible. I lean towards fish rather than meat in my diet, and I try to incorporate fruit and vegetables on a regular basis. I am newly married to my wonderful husband!
