About Me

I was born in Kabul, Afghanistan. My father, who was a professor at a university, taught me that medicine can be one of the effective ways to help people; to affect peoples’ health will eventually influence their lives.

Infectious Diseases Medicine is a very challenging field, and at times very rewarding; it is like being a detective trying to find out the cause of an illness, reach for a diagnosis and identify the best treatment for the disease. Infectious Diseases comprise a major cause of disability and death worldwide. This specialty encompasses a wide range of diseases such as pneumonias, heart infections, meningitis, HIV infection, malaria, tuberculosis, complicated bone, joint and skin infections etc. Different types of cultures, serological, and radiological studies are usually used to make a diagnosis. Patients need to be referred by their primary care providers or other specialists.

I received my medical degree from Kabul University, Kabul, Afghanistan. I completed my residency in Internal Medicine at Wright State University School of Medicine, Dayton, OH. After that, I completed a fellowship in Infectious Diseases at University of California Davis Medical Center, Sacramento, CA.

After many years of private practice, I decided to join The Permanente Medical Group, because this is a prestigious organization which promotes wellness of people, and has a great emphasis on prevention.

My personal interests include playing volleyball, soccer, jogging, watching sports and reading. I am married and have three sons and one daughter. I am fluent in English, Persian, Pashto, and know some Urdu and Spanish.

My Philosophy of Care

I believe that communication between health care providers, patients, and their family members is very important. I listen to my patients, notify them of their conditions, and involve them and their family in the decision process. I strive to build a good relationship and trust with my patients. I also work with other providers on the continuity of care for my patients.

What is an Infectious Diseases Specialist?

An Infectious Diseases (ID) Specialist is a physician with advanced training in the diagnosis and treatment of illnesses caused by microorganisms or germs.

Because their training and experience cover a unique cross-section of medicine, ID Specialists often are asked to evaluate and oversee challenging cases. ID Specialists practice both in hospitals and in office settings.

Please remember to bring all your medications or list of medications at the time of your visit with me; I look forward to seeing you soon. I will be putting helpful links and resources for medical information on my home page soon, so please visit again.
