My Profession and Why I Chose It

As a podiatrist I deal with all problems that have to do with the foot and ankle. That means I get to see all sorts of pathology whether it is a skin problem, nerve problem, bone, joint or muscle problem or anything else you can think of that can go wrong with the foot or ankle. My path to Podiatry started during my undergraduate years at UCLA. I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology. During my studies we were taught to look at the human body through the mind of an engineer. Podiatry seemed like a natural extension of this, and I haven't been disappointed. What is also nice for me is that I see patients of all ages in my practice. That means I get to interact with children, great grandparents and everyone in between.

My Credentials

Medical school California College of Podiatric Medicine, San Francisco, CA
Residency Kaiser Foundation Hospital, Sacramento, CA
Board certification Foot Surgery, American Board of Podiatric Surgery
Board certification Reconstructive Rearfoot-Ankle Surg, American Board of Podiatric Surgery

My Practice Philosophy

I really like to involve my patients in the decision making process. Many times there is not one right answer for a problem and that is where you and your own needs come into play. If we approach issues as a team then we are much more likely to come up with as solution that is best for you.

My Tenure with Kaiser Permanente

I've been with Kaiser Permanente for fourteen years now and I feel like it has really shaped the kind of doctor I have become. I feel lucky to have such great colleagues right outside my door. We are always sharing interesting cases with each other and comparing notes. With the technology age upon us this is an exciting time to be involved in medicine. Kaiser Permanente prides itself on continually implementing available technology into our practice habits. Practicing at Kaiser Permanente allows me to concentrate on new and innovative treatment methods without worrying about the business aspect. I'm encouraged to attend seminars and conferences and bring information back to our group. Other times one of my colleagues might have some interesting and new ideas to share. It's great to be able to spend most of my day being a doctor (instead of a businessman) and getting to practice in the way that I feel is best for the patient. I know my colleagues feel the same way. This is a luxury that not all doctors are fortunate to have.

Why I Like Practicing Medicine at Kaiser Permanente

What are the reasons you like practicing medicine in KP?

The best part about practicing medicine with Kaiser Permanente is the constant interaction with other doctors. This is in addition to the wonderful colleagues within my own department, I am only a phone call or even a short walk away from a consult with a doctor from another specialty. This is not only good for me, but also greatly appreciated by my patients when we can give them such prompt and excellent care.

My Professional Interests and Affiliations

I am involved with the Sacramento Valley Podiatric Medical Society. This provides me with interaction with many non-Kaiser Permanente podiatrists and keeps me abreast of what is happening in the Sacramento Podiatry community at large.

My Personal History

I was born and raised in Los Angeles and attended UCLA where I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology. This fuelled my interest in podiatry and I then entered the California College of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco. My residency training started at Lakeview Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and I then finished up here at the Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Sacramento. My experience as a resident here at Kaiser Permanente was rewarding enough that I did not hesitate to stay on when offered a staff position upon graduation.

I am currently married with three wonderful children. I think my wife is pretty wonderful too. As a family we enjoy all kinds of outdoor activities together from camping and hiking in the summer to skiing in the winter. Photography is one of my passions. I spent years fiddling with landscape photography but now spend my time capturing images of rapidly moving (and growing) subjects at home.
