My Specialty and Why I Chose It

I am a Physical Therapist, specializing in orthopedic manual therapy. This means that I treat injuries to the spine and extremities that result from accidents, surgeries, or wear and tear from daily life. During my career, the bulk of my experience has been spent treating outpatient orthopedic injuries at hospitals such as USC, UCLA and Kaiser. I have taken numerous courses with an emphasis on treating joint pathology. This emphasis was chosen because I enjoy trying to help people return to the most optimal function that their bodies will allow. My goal is to have you return to your job, or sport, and enjoy a good quality of life. Treatments may include joint mobilization, soft tissue movement, stretching, strengthening/training, patient education regarding the nature of your problem and a home exercise program addressing your areas of dysfunction.

My Practice Philosophy

I strongly believe that it is very important to educate patients and ultimately teach patients how to manage their problems. Often times, there is no quick fix. I evaluate the person and assess what problems or imbalances they have, for example muscles shortened or weak or joints moving too little or too much. I am very passionate about my work. I feel that the patient and the therapist must work together as a team to make a difference.

My Tenure with Kaiser Permanente

I was initially a part of Kaiser Permante in 1986 for 3 years and left to work at a small private clinic for 15 years. Now I am happy to say, that I returned to Kaiser in 2004. I have really come to appreciate the support that I get from my coworkers and management to help to continue to perpetuate my goal of good quality patient care.

Why I Like Practicing Medicine at Kaiser Permanente

I chose to work for Kaiser for several reasons. This is a very stimulating work environment. We have many physical therapists and this department lends itself to a constant exchange of very valuable information. We are also very fortunate to have a wealth of information at our fingertips. Kaiser takes great pride in keeping up-to-date with technology and it has benefited us greatly. It would appear that the lines of communication among all the health care professionals are now even better with our most recent computer program update. It is much easier to be an effective team member when the treating health care provider’s notes are all easily accessible and thorough. It is also easier for the patients to communicate with us either through secure emails or on the phone.
