About Me

Welcome to my physician’s home page. I am a senior partner with The Permanente Medical Group. I work at the Kaiser Permanente San Jose Medical Center as a Hospital Based Medicine Specialist, and I would like to share some things about me with you.

First, it is truly a privilege to practice medicine. I see my patients as an opportunity to give the best of myself to someone in need. It was my younger brother’s struggle with kidney failure that gave me the motivation to enter the medical field. I attended Harvard College and my medical degree is from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. My personal interests are varied, but I like to read on broad topics and then discuss them. Most of all, when not at work, I like to catch up on things happening in the lives of my family and friends.

Hospital medicine is an emerging field of internal medicine that focuses on the unique medical, social, and emotional needs of the acutely hospitalized patient. As a “hospitalist”, I will direct your day-to-day care. I will seek sub-specialist consultations when necessary to ensure you get the highest level of care possible. A hospitalist also serves as the primary medical consultant to the surgical services if complex medical issues arise.

I believe that through Kaiser Permanente, I have access to the very best medical minds and cutting edge technology to provide you with excellent medical care.

I look forward to working closely with you and those who love and care about you.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
