Welcome to my home page…

I am an experienced physical therapist and ergonomics professional. I pursued the field of physical therapy because I wanted to work with individuals to help them understand, recover from, and prevent future injuries. I enjoy interacting with individuals on a clinical basis and making a positive impact on comfort, function, and knowledge following an injury. I then decided to take my intentions one step further by helping improve workspaces and work practices through ergonomics to prevent injury or improve recovery from an injury.

My background…

I received my Masters of Physical Therapy from Hahnemann University in Philadelphia, PA in 1994. I worked clinically for six years treating patients with a wide variety of musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, and neurological conditions. Since that time, I have worked exclusively in the field of ergonomics and have helped individuals working in various working environments. I hold multiple ergonomics certifications, am a certified clinical instructor, and have partially completed a second master’s in human factors and ergonomics. I provide individual ergonomics assessments, facility assessments, group trainings, and formal lectures. I am active in my professional communities and have spoken at local, regional, and national conferences. I have special interests in ergonomics, workplace safety, occupational health, and repetitive stress injuries. On a personal note, when I’m not at work I enjoy backpacking, racquetball and rock climbing.

My recommendations…

I encourage active understanding and participation in your own health. Staying healthy is not a 9 to 5 job, and it’s not a destination to be achieved. Instead, it is a journey and a continuous challenge. Meeting this challenge takes a commitment to personal well-being. The role ergonomics takes is in helping to create a work space and in designing job tasks that optimize a person’s capabilities while minimizing his or her risk of injury. We also aim to provide individuals with a perspective on optimizing their current and future work spaces and work practices.

Philosophy of care…

Ergonomics comes from the Greek words “ergon” meaning work and “nomos” meaning law. Therefore, ergonomics would literally translate as the “laws of work.” What ergonomics strives to do is to fit the workplace, the work tools, and the work tasks to the size and capabilities of the individual worker in order to decrease the likelihood of injury while increasing both comfort and productivity. The ergonomics process is often a trans-disciplinary one and always involves a team approach. The most important member of the team is you, the individual worker, your understanding of your job demands, and your capabilities along with your commitment to the journey of workplace safety and efficiency are vital components of a successful ergonomics process.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
