My diverse and multifaceted background spans several areas of responsibility. I have been a nurse anesthetist for about 8 years now and an instructor of anesthesia at Samuel Merritt College, Program of Nurse Anesthesia for the past 5 years.

As a competent anesthesia provider, my main focus is to do my best to prevent any harm to my patients. This basic premise defines my practice and covers everything from a thorough room set-up and anesthesia equipment check to essential pre-anesthetic assessment, evaluation, documentation and to paying utmost attention to the fundamental task of proper patient positioning, monitoring and keeping the patient adequately and appropriately anesthetized by utilizing techniques ranging from local anesthesia with sedation, regional anesthesia (spinal or epidural anesthesia) or general anesthesia.

Vigilant patient monitoring – and what I mean by that is constant focused attention on the patient, the procedure and the monitors and appropriately intervening to meet the needs of the situation, instead of relying on the technological aspects to avoid critical errors. In order to continuously raise the standard of anesthesia practice and to meet or exceed the benchmark for safety-first patient care, I believe in reviewing the latest research and keeping myself up to date on current practices in anesthesia and other related disciplines. Vigilance is the centerpiece of my practice and embraces my approach to safe patient care at all times. I promise to give each of my patients my undivided attention and total commitment to his/her care.

“Light the life of someone else through the gift of mentoring and find the path to your legacy”. As an assistant professor at Samuel Merritt College, my focus is to create a learning environment that is supportive of students and to respect their needs as adult learners. My long-term goal is to contribute to the next generation of nurse anesthetists by helping them become practitioners well grounded in science, with open minds and empathy for our changing and diverse patient population.

I always look for the best in others and genuinely celebrate their accomplishments as much as my own. I am very fortunate to be surrounded by bright, wise, authentic, and enthusiastic colleagues who continually inspire me to do my absolute best.

“A good head and a good heart are always a formidable combination.” – Nelson Mandella.

Being wholeheartedly diverse is critical in these times of unparalleled change. This characteristic enables me to be a team player, to be confident, yet humble, to treat everyone with respect, to maintain strong personal integrity, to remain curious and open to new ideas, to surround myself with the best people, to learn from them and to give them generous credit, and to balance my career with other important aspects of life.

An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
