About This Site:

Welcome to my home page! This site is designed to provide you with the information about myself and the services provided by Kaiser Permanente and the Diablo Service Area, Department of Anesthesia.

In the text below, and to the left, you will find links to other sites which I think you may find helpful, educational and/or entertaining. First of all, let me give you some information about anesthesia:

Last, but not least, one of the most important things you can do to improve your health and the outcome of your surgery is to quit smoking. Learn more here - Smoking - Call It Quits!

About Me:

I grew up in India and have had the privilege and pleasure of practicing medicine at Kaiser Permanente since 1987. After Medical School, I did a year of internship in pediatrics at Columbia University in New York and then three years of anesthesia residency and fellowship (cardiac and pediatric anesthesia) at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia. I am also a member of:

I appreciate the way Kaiser Permanente frees me from the business and administrative side of medicine and allows me to concentrate on taking care of my patients. I also have a strong sense of teamwork at Kaiser Permanente; within the Anesthesia Department, between physicians, and within the facilities in general. Practicing medicine and helping my patients in surgery makes me humble and satisfies my duty as a human being.

In addition to seeing patients for the department of Anesthesia in the Diablo Service Area, I also served as the Director of Ambulatory Surgery Center at the Pleasanton Ambulatory Surgery Center until 2002.

I am happily married to Jyotsana "Shana", a Pediatrician at Kaiser Pleasanton Medical Offices, for more than 26 years and we have two wonderful sons who keep us young at all times. I can also speak Hindi and Gularati. My personal interests include hiking, backpacking, biking, traveling, and helping the Boy Scouts as an Assistant Scout Master.

My Credentials

Medical school University of Gujarat, Ahmedabad, India
Residency Harlem Hospital Center, New York, NY
Residency Albert Einstein Medical Center, Philadelphia, PA
Fellowship Albert Einstein Medical Center, Philadelphia, PA
Board certification Anesthesiology, American Board of Anesthesiology

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
