My Specialty and Why I Chose It

I am a pediatric gastroenterologist, which means that I am a specialist in the diseases of the digestive system which includes the intestines and the liver for babies, kids and teenagers. This is a challenging and vastly growing field. The challenges, the ever evolving nature of the field and the requirement of procedural skills attracted me towards this whereas my love and compassion to work with kids dragged me to the field of pediatric gastroenterology.

My Practice Philosophy

I value in communicating to the patients and the parents the nature and pathophysiology of the disease so that they could better understand the disease to make an informed decision of the management of the disease. I think evidence based medicine is much more valuable than expert opinion though I do not mind trying different managements in refractory and complicated cases. I tend to use less medications and more dietary manipulations for benign conditions and be more aggressive for severe diseases.

My Tenure with Kaiser Permanente

I became a part of Kaiser Permanente due to several reasons. One of them is the presence of highly experienced and well respected colleagues in the same field whose experience and expertise I can share with. I do not have to deal with insurance companies to get approved to prescribe a medication or to do a procedure. In other words, I get to practice medicine the way I want to and spend more time taking care of my patients rather than dealing with insurance companies.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
