About Me
I have been practicing emergency medicine for over 20 years. One might look at the medical background of my family as the driving force for my movement into medicine, and while this certainly had an influence, it really was my passion to learn the skills and techniques needed to care for acutely ill and injured patients that drove me toward medicine. In emergency medicine I found the blending of medical care that was best suited for me, caring for all ages of patients, presenting with a wide range of problems in the acute setting. Along the way, there is much that my patients have taught me about humility and the appreciation of life.
It would be hard to find a better environment for the practice of emergency medicine than at Kaiser Permanente, Walnut Creek. We have a beautiful new facility, exceptionally skilled and caring physicians, a dedicated support staff, and an unparalleled group of medical and surgical specialists in all areas, readily available for consultation.
In addition to my clinical responsibilities, I also have the privilege of serving in a physician- administrative role. As an Associate Physician in Chief, I am able to work within a team of dedicated physician and non-physician leaders in helping to direct the services and resources for the care of our patients in the Diablo area. Physician-directed health care is a cornerstone of Kaiser Permanente.
Growing up and going to school in Colorado, I carry within me a great love of activities in the mountains, and an ever-strong bond to the Denver Broncos (putting me at odds with my Raider and 49'er colleagues). I have three wonderful children whose lives and activities seem to consume much of my free time. We have 2 German Shepherds, and assorted fish, hamsters, birds, and a tortoise to add to life in the house. Whenever possible, I head to the mountains to ski, bike, fish, hike, and camp.
I encourage you to contact me if you have questions about your Emergency Department care. You may have questions about your particular condition, the medications I may have prescribed, your follow up care plan, or comments about any aspect of your visit to the Emergency Department. You may e-mail me or call me as listed on my card. We understand that any visit to the Emergency Department can be stressful and even frightening to children and adults. An Emergency Department can seem busy, chaotic and impersonal, yet we work hard to care for every patient with compassion and respect. Sometimes patients have further questions or need some clarification after they leave the Emergency Department, so please don't hesitate to get in touch with me directly.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
