My Biography
I was born in Sofia, Bulgaria (Europe). My basic education came from the French high school system. I completed my under-graduate training at the University of Louisville, Louisville, Kentucky. My basic medical training in Mexico, and my clinical training were completed in Loyola Stritch School of Medicine, Chicago, Illinois. I served my internship in Internal Medicine at St.Louis University School of Medicine, St.Louis MO; my internal medicine residency at UC Irvine College of Medicine, Irvine, California; and my fellowship in pulmonary medicine at Temple University School of Medicine, Philadelpia, PA.
I am board certified in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Diseases by the American Board of Internal Medicine. I am among the physicians on the the Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency Support Group top ten list Top 10 List. I joined Kaiser Permanente Fresno in 1990. Since then, I have been chief of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Apnea Departments. I am a member of the American Thoracic Society and the Fresno-Madera Medical Society. Presently, I am serving a second term as an elected representative on the Kaiser Permanente Board Of Directors.
Languages have always been an important part of my life. I am fluent in English, Spanish, French and Bulgarian. At one time, I received an award for penmanship/calligraphy; since medical school, I have perfected a physician's legendary illegibility. I have been married for 31 years and have two adult children. In my leisure time, I enjoy traveling, biking, playing ice hockey(I still have all my teeth) and soccer.
If you have questions, please call the Department of Pulmonary Medicine at 448-4262.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
