About Me

I was born in Saigon, Vietnam, and emigrated to the Unites States when I was seven years old right, before the fall on Saigon in April of 1975. I’m the second youngest of a large family of six boys. After arriving to America, we stayed at many refugee sponsorship campsites from the west to east coast. I learned to appreciate how beautiful our country is and how lucky we are to live in a free democratic society. Our family finally settled in Concord, where I spent my childhood. After graduating from Mt. Diablo High School, I attended and graduated from University of California at Davis as a physiology major with high honors. From there, I attended medical school in Houston, Texas, at Baylor College of Medicine.

The choice of a medical specialty was a difficult one as many aspect of medicine, surgery, and pediatrics appeal to me. However, I found radiology the most exciting and challenging combination of science, medicine, and technology. Another appealing feature of radiology is the unique and vital role the radiologist plays on the patient’s management team. The radiologist functions as an “expert” to his medical colleges, and in doing so must master the intricacy of human anatomy, the natural history, as well as radiographic appearance of various diseases. In addition, with the growing number of interventional procedures performed, diagnostic radiology has evolved to become more therapeutic. It has provided additional options in the treatment of diseases where traditional therapy has failed.

After finishing my radiology residency at University of California at Davis, I wanted to come back and serve in the East Contra Costa community because it has been so good to me and my family over the years. I chose Kaiser Permanente because of its integrated system where physicians, hospital, and health plan all worked together. Also appealing was its philosophy of valuing diversity both in its patient population as well as its workers. Additionally, having a multispecialty group practice of medicine where the physicians work together is great, and I’m able to work with some of the best technology and equipment money can buy. I’m currently serving as an Associate Chief of Diagnostic Imaging for the North Diablo Service Area.

I married my highs chool sweetheart and have a beautiful young daughter. We enjoy Friday night bowling as well as spending time in the backyard entertaining friends and family, relaxing by the pool, BBQ-ing and feeding our Koi fish. My wife and I are avid fantasy football junkies. Being that she is a huge Niners fan and I’m diehard Cowboys fan, tension is pretty high during football season.
