About Me

I was born in Taiwan and I grew up mainly in Durham, New Hampshire. I completed my B.S. degree, with Distinction, at Stanford University, majoring in Biological Sciences, and my M.D. degree in 1989 at the University of California in San Francisco.

I completed an internship in Internal Medicine at Mount Zion Hospital in San Francisco followed by residency in Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at UC San Francisco. During my training, I was a Chief Resident in Laboratory Medicine at both San Francisco General and Moffit-Long Hospitals. I joined Kaiser Permanente in 2001.

My Interests

I am a board-certified practicing anatomic and clinical pathologist, and I especially enjoy surgical pathology, fine needle aspiration cytology and transfusion medicine.

I am married to an anesthesiologist with whom I have three lovely daughters. I enjoy reading, gardening, going to yoga and body pump classes at the Y, and spending time with my family. I can carry on simple conversations in Taiwanese, Mandarin and French.

My Credentials

Medical school UC San Francisco School of Medicine, San Francisco, CA
Internship Mount Zion Medical Center of The University of California, San Francisco, CA
Residency UC San Francisco, San Francisco, CA

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
