About Dr. Madvig

Philip Madvig is Associate Executive Director of The Permanente Medical Group. He joined Kaiser Permanente in 1983 as an internist at the San Francisco Medical Center. He was appointed Physician-in-Chief at the Medical Center in 1988. In 1997 he became an Associate Executive Director for The Permanente Medical Group. In this role, he is accountable within Northern California for quality, utilization, regulatory compliance, accreditation, research, and hospital operations. He co-chairs the Northern California Quality Oversight Committee and the Joint Operating Group, and chairs the Executive Compliance Committee.

Dr. Madvig obtained his AB in Biology from the University of California, Santa Cruz and his MS in Nutritional Sciences from University of California, Berkeley. He attended medical school at University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry and the University of California, Los Angeles. His internship and residency were completed at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, San Francisco, followed by fellowships in endocrinology and geriatrics at Stanford University Medical Center.

Dr. Madvig spends most of his time in administrative and leadership activities. He does maintain a limited medical practice at the San Francisco facility where he sees general medical patients most Wednesday afternoons.
