My Specialty and Why I Chose It

I am a Physician Assistant (PA) in the Orthopedics Department at the Kaiser Permanente Roseville and Sacramento campuses. As a PA I participate in the care of orthopedic patients from their initial visit to final follow up appointment. Some of the duties I am able to provide include clinical evaluation, injections, assisting the physician in the operating room, and medical care in the hospital setting.

Within the Orthopedic Department, I specialize in the treatment of children with musculoskeletal issues. I work closely with Dr. David Schiffman and provide care to children with clubfeet, hip dysplasia, etc.

My Practice Philosophy

One of the most important aspects of healthcare is patient communication and education. I feel that the patient is an integral part of the healthcare team and their understanding of the medical condition and treatment plan is essential to their improvement.

My Tenure With Kaiser Permanente

I have been with Kaiser Permanente since 2002. Over that time, I've had the opportunity to work at both the Sacramento and Roseville campuses with a great team of surgeons. I've really come to appreciate the depth of the orthopedic care we provide with so many sub-specialists available.

Why I Like Practicing Medicine at Kaiser Permanente

Kaiser Permanente is a very unique and integrated environment to practice medicine as a physician assistant. It allows me to be an important part of the healthcare team in helping patients get through very difficult problems. There is close cooperation among physicians and staff to provide the best care possible for patients in any situation.

Professional Interests & Affiliations

  • Graduate of Gannon University's Physician Assistant Program in Erie, PA
  • Graduate of Postgraduate Physician Assistant Orthopedic Residency Program at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton, CA.
  • National Certification as a Physician Assistant - NCCPA

My P.A. program was unique in that it combined my undergradutate degree and the Physician Assistant curriculum in one 5 year program. During my medical education, I developed an interest in the musculoskeletal system and decided to continue my training in this field. I then completed a 1 year P.A. Orthopedic Residency Program where I received further training in this field.

On a Personal Note. . .

My wife and I moved to California from Pennsylvania in 2001 and spend much of our free time exploring some of what this great state has to offer. From the mountains to the coast, we enjoy many seasonal outdoor activities including skiing, mountain biking, hiking, etc.
