My Specialty and Why I Chose It

I am an emergency physician. This means that I treat patients with ages ranging from newborn to elderly and with problems ranging from colds to heart attacks. The emergency department gives me the opportunity to meet many people, to diagnose emergent illnesses, and to see patients improve relatively quickly.

My Practice Philosophy

I value relieving my patients’ suffering. I also value keeping patients safe by figuring out what is causing their symptoms before acute illness does serious harm. I try to treat all patients as if they were members of my family.

My Tenure With Kaiser Permanente

I have been an emergency physician at Kaiser Morse and Roseville since 2007. Before that, I trained at Kaiser Morse and Roseville, Kaiser South Sacramento, and the U.C. Davis Medical Center as an emergency resident.

Why I Like Practicing Medicine at Kaiser Permanente

Kaiser provides me with what I need to give you the best care. The nurses, clerks, and techs are motivated and experienced. There are always at least two emergency physicians working in the department. Furthermore, there is a wide variety of specialists readily available if need be. We are all salaried Kaiser employees. There are no issues surrounding health insurance. Instead, we can focus on what we do best -- provide first-rate medical care.

On a Personal Note. . .

I grew up near Chicago. My parents emigrated to the United States from Australia and worked for 40 years as scientists. After college, I spent a year in Australia and then studied cryptography (secret codes) in Berkeley before moving to Albuquerque. In New Mexico, I worked in cryptography before attending medical school. In 2004, the medical match brought me to train at UC Davis. It seemed that there was no way that I was going to stay. But then I fell in love with the area. More importantly, I met and fell in love with my wife. She and I now have a beautiful baby girl, a dog, and two cats.

Disclaimer
If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
