Welcome to my home page and to the Department of Psychiatry at Redwood City! Continue reading below to learn more about me and my practice at Redwood City. My office hours are listed above, my credentials are listed below and you will find links to useful mental health sites on the left.

Psychiatry focuses on the treatment of mental conditions that affect our moods, thoughts and behaviors. From my credentials you can see that I am trained both as a physician and a scientist. I have always been fascinated by the human mind and for quite sometime thought that I would pursue a career as a scientist exploring the workings of the human brain. Over time, however, I discovered that my strongest passion has been for working with people suffering from the effects of mental illness. I have been working as a psychiatrist full-time since 1995 when I joined Kaiser Permanente.

If you make an appointment to see me, I try my best to understand what kind of assistance you are looking for, the kinds of problems you are having, and how these problems affect your life and overall health. The most effective treament for your problem may require a team of mental health professionals working together. I therefore frequently enlist colleagues in my department to help me to provide you the care you may need. My practice focuses on adults and older teens. I treat a full range of psychiatric conditions and have particular interest in helping people with histories of psychological trauma, anxiety and head injuries.

I find working at Kaiser Permanente to be particulary rewarding. I like how mental health services are integrated into the total health care our members receive.

My professional interests include the biology and genetics of mental illnesses and keeping abreast of the newest treatments for mental illnesses.

On a more personal note, I was born and raised in Wisconsin, then moved to the East Coast for my graduate and medical training and then moved to California in 1987 for my residency and practice. I am an avid cyclist, love to cook and enjoy classical music (modern and opera).

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
