Welcome to my home page!
Hello, my name is Paula Smith, and I am a psychologist with the Department of Psychiatry at Kaiser, Elk Grove. I have been with Kaiser since 1996 and am pleased to have been with the Elk Grove facility since it opened in 2003.
Practice Philosophy
It is my privilege to be allowed to hear and respond to each individual's most personal circumstances and life stories. Although my approach is practical in addressing symptomatic relief, I also believe it is important to include the whole person: mind, body, and spirit. It is my intention to respect each individual and to offer him or her the best service I can. I strongly believe in the possibility of change, no matter what a person's past or current circumstances.
Special Interests
My dissertation explored the effects of physical and sexual abuse on self-esteem, trust, and intimacy. Other special interests include adult ADHD, eating disorders (anorexia, bulimia, and obesity), and the interaction between mind and body. I also do psychodiagnostic assessment (aka psych testing) for Elk Grove patients.
Appointments
For new appointments, please call Triage at 525-6182. If you have already seen me and need a return appointment, please call Reception here at Elk Grove, 478-5850, and Geli or Pummy will help you. If you have a problem getting into my schedule, please leave me a message at my voicemail number, 478-5868, and I will try to work it out. I make every effort to return calls the same or the following day.

Disclaimer
If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
