My Biography

I came to Kaiser Permanente San Francisco because of its reputation as a teaching facility. Here, I have opportunities to interact with our residents and occasionally participate in their rounds. I find that working ion the Cardiac Catheterization Lab is always a learning process. Because we get a large volume of members, I get to address a range of issues. Areas of special interest to me include cardiopulmonary medicine, mechanical ventilation in critical care patients, and pulmonary hypertension, an area in which San Francisco Medical Center is a designated regional center. Kaiser also drew me because I sought more of a team approach than I had found at community hospitals. I am able to interface with other clinics and departments, and it’s my belief that the availability of hospital-based physicians exerts a strong impact on our excellent health care delivery. San Francisco is a great place to work; it has big-city energy while retaining the strengths and advantages of a small city.

When I first arrived at Kaiser, I supervised the new Cardiac Procedure Unit. In this capacity, I was involved in staff development during implementation of the stent percutaneous coronary intervention. I realized that a new continuum of cardiac care was evolving, one in which a nurse in an advanced practice role could serve patient needs. Utilization of the nurse practitioner in this new in-patient setting was a paradigm shift for Kaiser Permanente, and I worked with physicians to implement the role.

Kaiser offers members care that is highly integrated. Our information technology is superb, including our electronic medical records system, Health Connect. Providers encourage members to be proactive and become involved as partners in their own care. We help empower patients to manage their own care and we explain to them what we are doing and why. I find that patients really respond to this approach.

I hail from a large family of six boys and four girls. My husband and I have three adult sons and a daughter-in-law, and I enjoy spending time with our new grandson. I look forward to assisting my daughter with her new day care preschool. I love visiting the beach and meditating while watching the waves, and I believe in maintaining a sense of humor!

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
