Welcome to My Internet Home Page
I am proud to be a member of such an outstanding department and the medical group at Kaiser Permanente Central Valley. I hope that we can always provide the best possible quality of care and service to you.
About Me
I was born in Laos and came to the United States when I was five years old. I lived in Montana until I was 11 years old, then my father decided to relocate the family to California because of my mother’s poor health. He thought the sunnier weather would help her somewhat. I am not quite sure how we ended up in Modesto, CA of all cities, but whatever the case, I have grown to love the Central Valley. I attended Modesto High School and received my bachelor’s degree in human biology at Stanford University, Stanford, CA. After Stanford, I decided to head east to Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. for medical school. I had a wonderful time in D.C. and made some great life-long friends. However, I could not wait to get back to California, where my family is and where my heart really belongs. I completed my internship at Alameda County Medical Center in Oakland, CA and then headed back to the Central Valley to complete my anesthesia residency at University of California, Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, CA.
My desire to pursue medicine started in high school. For as long as I can remember, my mother was always sick and no one seemed to understand her illness, and the language and cultural barriers only made the situation more frustrating. As a dedicated and idealistic youth, I told myself that I was going to study hard, go to a good college, and become a physician so I can help people like my mother. With perseverance, that dream became a reality.
I decided to join Kaiser Permanente in 2008 right after finishing my anesthesia residency because I feel that it is the place to practice medicine where high quality patient care always comes first. Not only does Kaiser Permanente care about the small details but it also cares about the “big picture” and the overall health of the individual. I chose to practice in the Central Valley because it is where I grew up and where my family resides. Because it is a very diverse community, I feel that it makes me more open minded and more culturally sensitive.
My personal interests include outdoor activities like hiking, snowboarding, and sightseeing, and other activities like cooking and interior decorating. I am also fluent in Hmong.
My Philosophy of Care
My goals in medicine are to provide my patients with the highest possible quality of care in a culturally sensitive way and to encourage my patients to take an active role in maintaining their health. I understand that patients are unique and come from all walks of life, but despite their cultural, religious, or personal beliefs, they all want a physician who treats them like a human being, with respect and dignity.
I understand that many of my patients are extremely nervous or scared when they present for surgery. To minimize their anxiety and to make the perioperative experience more bearable for them, I want to be as open and understanding as possible, ensuring that their concerns and questions are thoroughly addressed. I am really looking forward to contributing as much as I can to this community which I call “home.”
Our entire Anesthesiology Department and I want to be certain that all of your concerns are addressed. If you forget to ask a question during your pre-operative office visit, please call (209) 476-3633.
