Biography

I was born in Los Angeles and spent most of my childhood and adult years living in Israel. While living in Israel, I received a medical degree in 1987 and completed a Pediatric Residency at the Ben Gurion University and the Soroka University Medical Center where I also served as Chief Resident. In 1997, I moved back to the United States and completed a four year fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology at the University of California at San Francisco.

I joined The Permanente Medical Group in September of 2001. My special interests include mucosal immunology and Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Throughout my fellowship I studied the immune and allergic response of the intestine and participated in studies on nutritional therapy for inflammatory bowel disease. I am currently an active participant in multi-center research groups studying the epidemiology of Inflammatory Bowel Disease and gastrointestinal disorders in Autism. I have published many articles in major peer reviewed journals and maintain an active teaching position at Stanford University. I am married and have three children. I speak English and Hebrew. On my spare time I enjoy hiking, climbing, skiing and spending time with my family and friends.

My Goal and Practice Philosophy

It is my goal to provide high quality and compassionate care and it is my privilege to work together with you and your personal physician in addressing your concerns. In the evaluation of nutritional or gastrointestinal disorders it is often important to revisit the medical history and consider further tests which may include labs, imaging and other procedures. During this evaluation your child’s comfort is important to me and there are often medications or simple measures to improve symptoms. I welcome you and your child as active partners in this process and I am interested in any comments or suggestions that you may have. I enjoy working at Kaiser Permanente where we and our patients benefit from an environment that emphasizes service, teamwork and technology

I want to be certain that all of your concerns and needs are addressed. If you forget to ask a question during your visit, you may leave me a message at (408) 851-9898 and my staff or myself, will return your call with the information you need. If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
