My name is Olof Sultan, M.D. I work as a Hospitalist in South Sacramento, where I am the Subchief of Hospital Medicine. I was born and raised in Sweden, and later moved as a teenager to the United States; where I lived first in Dallas, Texas, and later in the Bay Area of California. As a dual citizen of both countries, I am equally fluent in Swedish and English.
As a "hospitalist," I specialize in providing general care and treatment for the types of diseases, injuries, and other conditions that are usually treated in a hospital, rather than a walk-in clinic or physician's office. I am trained to perform a broad range of procedures and to manage multiple, severe disease processes. Most importantly, I coordinate very closely with other hospital staff, surgeons, specialists and registered nurses to ensure that a patient receives optimal hospital care. I also follow-up with each patient's primary care physician and subspecialists after they are discharged. We all respect and listen to each other's ideas and opinions, and this helps us to successfully treat you or your loved ones in and out of the hospital.
Before I decided to pursue a medical career, I worked as a commercial diver in the Gulf of Mexico, where I received extensive EMT training. That gave me the opportunity to practice hyperbaric medicine, and spurred my early interest to learn more about human physiology. I still enjoy scuba diving, and I also spend some of my spare time enjoying other outdoor activities such as hiking, mountain biking, and golf.
I live with my wife and two children in Folsom, where we are happy to finally settle down and call home.
Keep Healthy,
Olof Sultan, M.D.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
