Greetings, my name is Olana Aberra, MD. I am a hospitalist (Internal Medicine inpatient physician) at Kaiser Permanente, South Sacramento. I work primarily in the hospital setting, which is why you will probably only meet me if you or your loved ones need hospital care.  I have been a physician at Kaiser Permanente since July 2005.

I would like to use this opportunity to give you a little bit more background about myself.  I was born and raised in Ethiopia. I moved to the United States in 1992 and finished high school in Bakersfield. I subsequently completed my undergraduate training in Chemistry at UC Irvine.

I enjoy seeing patients in the hospital setting as it allows me to have day-to-day interactions with patients and their family members. I believe patients and physicians must work as partners to achieve the best outcome. I involve my patients and their families in the decision-making process of their medical care. I work hard to explain medical conditions in understandable terms to make sure my patients feel well informed about their health and feel comfortable about the care they receive. It is my mission to make certain that each patient gets the best and most compassionate care possible.

Throughout the many years of education and medical work, I have also managed to keep up with my other interests. I enjoy playing and watching various sports including soccer, basketball and football.  I also enjoy traveling to remote regions in third world countries such as Ethiopia to provide medical care and medical education.

My Credentials

Medical school UC Los Angeles, School of Medicine, Los Angeles, CA
Residency UC Davis Medical Center, Sacramento, CA
Board certification Internal Medicine, American Board of Internal Medicine

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
