My webpage is aimed at giving patients a chance to familiarize themselves with my medical background. If interested, you may find a listing of my presentations and publications at the bottom of the page.

I completed my BS and MS at Stanford University in 1985, where I received honors in Biology. I completed my MD at Stanford Medical School in 1989, where I served as a teaching assistant in neuroanatomy and was first introduced to neurosurgery. I enjoyed a very rich research experience while in medical school, including a summer working at the Institute Pasteur in Paris. I decided to pursue a neurosurgical residency because it fulfilled so many of my interests. In order to experience how neurosurgery was practiced in different teaching hospitals, I chose to do my internship at the University of Southern California/ Los Angeles County Medical Center. I then traveled to the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) in Boston where I completed my neurosurgical residency. During residency I was awarded a National Research Service Award from the National Institutes of Health to support post-doctoral research at the California Institute of Technology and University of California, Los Angeles. In my last year at the MGH, I served as the chief resident running a service that performed over 300 procedures in six months. After completing my residency I decided to join the faculty as a cerebrovascular specialist at Brigham and Women’s and Children’s Hospitals, Boston and served as an Instructor at Harvard Medical School.

I joined The Permanente Medical Group and the neurosurgical service at the Redwood City facility in 1998. My special interests include cerebrovascular surgery, Moya-Moya disease and brain tumors. I am fortunate to be able to work with a tremendous group of neurovascular and endovascular specialists in our hospital to provide the best care to our patients with neurovascular diseases. I enjoy the fact that our clinical decisions are made in a cooperative and cohesive neurovascular specialty group. The arrangement at Kaiser is unique in that frequently the neurovascular specialists in other settings are competing against one another. Our group discusses all neurovascular cases at our weekly conference and we come to conclusions that are formed by all of our opinions.

I was Board Certified in 2002. I am a member of the California Medical Association, San Mateo County Medical Association and the California Association of Neurosurgeons. I also serve on the San Mateo County Arts Commission.

I enjoy art, skiing and travel. I am fluent in Farsi and speak basic Spanish.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
