Why I Enjoy My Job
I'm often asked how I can stand listening to people talk about their problems all day, and if that's all there was to being a therapist I probably wouldn't enjoy it so much. But people don't come to me just to talk about their problems, they come to solve them. Hearing their stories, engaging with them where they feel stuck, helping to create movement, and then seeing them start to feel better as things change is not only the most fulfilling work I can imagine doing, but also the most fascinating.
My Practice Philosophy
I specialize in the practice of Coherence Therapy (previously known as Depth Oriented Brief Therapy), a methodology that engenders deep-rooted, lasting change with regard to specific symptoms in as little time as possible. This therapeutic style allows me to help people gain significant insights into and make real headway on their problems in a minimal number of sessions. Most people seem to respond positively to how I work, and most find that they actually enjoy the process of gaining new insights about themselves and their problems in this way.
Outside of Kaiser Permanente, I collaborate with the founder of this methodology and am one of a select group of therapists certified to train other mental health professionals to practice Coherence Therapy through the Coherence Therapy Institute. More information on this modality can be found at the Coherence Therapy Website.
I am also experienced in the practice of EMDR work. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) is a procedure commonly used to treat symptoms of trauma, as well as panic and anxiety. It is one of a number of techniques I employ to work with these symptoms. More information on EMDR can be found at the EMDR Website.
In addition, I utilize a wide variety of methods and techniques drawn from other therapeutic modalities, including Process Work, Gestalt, Hakomi, Inner Child Work, Traumatic Incident Reduction, and others.
Why I Enjoy Working at Kaiser Permanente
The main thing I love about working for Kaiser Permanente is that it makes psychotherapy available to a much wider variety of people than I would be likely to see if I only worked in private practice. I love the wide range of diversity in my clientele here in terms of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, lifestyle choices, socioeconomic status, and other factors.
I also really enjoy the supportive community of therapists, psychiatrists, and medical doctors with whom I collaborate on a daily basis here at Kaiser Permanente. When you come to me for therapy, you get not only my services, but those of a wide-ranging team of other professionals as well, each with their own skill or specialization. Working here really gives me the sense of being part of an extensive and high-quality team.
If you are a Kaiser Permanente member and are interested in working with me, just call (707)645-2700 to request an intake appointment.
For more information about how I work, or if you would like to contact me but are not a Kaiser Permanente member, please visit my website at: www.berkeleypsychologist.org.
I look forward to seeing you.
