About Me

I was born in Pakistan and immigrated to the USA as a child. I have spent nearly all my life in California, living in both urban and rural settings. I grew up in Clovis, a small town in the San Joaquin Valley. I attended UC San Diego and received my degree in biochemistry while pursuing my interests in art history, which I completed as my minor. I received by MD from UC Davis, then completed my internship back home, at UC San Francisco – Fresno. After a year in Bethesda, MD where I explored basic science research, I came back to California to complete my neurology training at Kaiser Los Angeles. I then moved to the San Francisco bay area for a fellowship at the Stanford Sleep Disorders Clinic, one of the first centers established for the evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders.

I joined Kaiser Permanente in 2005 because it offers an integrated approach to patient care. As a neurologist and sleep disorders specialist, Kaiser provides me the opportunity to positively impact my patient’s lives without being hindered by waiting for approvals and limited resources.

My Interests

I enjoy dealing with all aspects of neurological diagnosis and care.

  • I am interested in the use of botulinum toxin in the care of neurological disorders such as hemifacial spasm, movement disorders and spasticity.
  • My passion is sleep disorders. I enjoy working with adults and children in diagnosis and treatment of the large variety of sleep disorders such as sleep related breathing disorders/obstructive sleep apnea, narcolepsy, restless legs syndrome, periodic limb movement disorder, REM behavior disorder and insomnia to name a few . I am especially interested in the overlap between neurology and sleep disorders. I anticipate continuing my involvement with the Stanford Sleep Disorders Clinic as adjunct assistant clinical faculty.
  • My personal interests include art history, cycling, tennis, martial arts and my family.

My Philosophy of Care

I believe that best results are achieved through education, informed decisions and working together. As your Neurologist, I strive to provide you with information and guidance regarding your neurological condition so that we can make the best decisions for treatment together. !

As a Neurologist, I take appointments by referral. If you do not already have a referral, please call our appointment/advice line at (650) 742-2100 to make an appointment with a general practitioner. To make an appointment in our sub-specialty department, please call (650) 742-2179.
