Dr. Santamaria-Fries received her medical degree from Rosario University in Bogota, Colombia in 1981. She completed a residency in pediatric pathology at the Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1993; in anatomical and clinical pathology at the University of Texas Health Science Center from 1983-1987, and a fellowship in surgical/oncologic pathology at MD Anderson Cancer Center from 1987-1988.

She joined The Permanente Medical Group in September 1988.

Her personal interests include classical music, reading, swimming, traveling, skiing and playing with her children.

Dr. Santamaria-Fries speaks Spanish.
