Welcome to My Internet Home Page

Welcome! As a Clinical Psychologist who works only in the Department of Medicine, I offer a unique service. For those of you experiencing chronic pain, it is probably obvious that depression and other mood or behavioral symptoms co-occur with this condition. I help chronic pain patients manage their symptoms through behavioral and mind-body techniques, as well as offer support to families of those patients. Despite the fact that chronic pain is an ongoing condition that currently has no true cure, a life of quality can be established. The best way to do this is through our multidisciplinary chronic pain care management program. Ask your provider for a referral.

About Me

I was born in Los Angeles, CA. I then moved to Orange County as a child, when there were still Orange Groves in abundance. I am an only child, so I had to learn how to entertain myself. In high school, I was on the drill team and got to go to Ireland to march in the St. Patrick’s Day parades. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from California State University, Fullerton, CA. Next, I came to Stockton for the Master’s degree in Behavioral Medicine (Psychology) at the University of the Pacific. Then I made a huge leap, as a California native, and attended the University of Mississippi, MS to obtain my Doctoral degree in Psychology. After that experience, I returned to California and completed my internship at the Veterans Affairs (VA) Hospital in Long Beach and went on to my postdoctoral residency at Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles. My medical interests include Chronic Pain, Gerontology, Mindfulness-based Cognitive and Behavioral Therapy.

I suppose that I have always been a good listener. While health and disease has always been an interest to me, I am also very interested in what factors (personal, environmental, cultural) make a person resilient to stress, and strive to be their best possible.

I did my postdoctoral residency in Psychology at Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles. It was what I would describe as my “dream job”. After getting licensed and working in a variety of settings, the opportunity to return to Kaiser Permanente (this time in Oakland) arose, and I jumped on it. As it turned out, my dream was realized.

When I was at the University of the Pacific, it was the first time I had lived anywhere else other than where I grew up (Southern California), so I guess I felt like I “grew up” in Stockton. Not only did I have the chance to return to the place I had enjoyed living, but I had the challenging and rewarding opportunity to build the chronic pain program here in Stockton, from its early days.

When I am not working, I like gardening; going to Stockton Thunder Hockey games, Ports baseball games, UOP (University of the Pacific) sporting events; photography; reading; traveling; and playing with my two dogs.

My Philosophy of Care

Mind and body are very much connected. Both need to be addressed for complete healing to occur. I like to think of myself as a teacher and a coach, in addition to being a clinical psychologist. Helping people become aware of their patterns and habits allows them a chance to make lasting change. Therefore, good communication is very important. I am fortunate that my job allows me to focus on this. The integrated care provided at Kaiser Permanente gives me the opportunity to maximize my contribution to the overall treatment each patient receives.

Thank you for visiting my home page. Your comments and suggestions are always welcome and I look forward to seeing you.

An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
