My Biography
I chose to work for Kaiser Permanente San Francisco for many reasons. Being a San Francisco native and having completed my medical training here in the city, I wanted to remain a part of the community and have the opportunity to serve our diverse population through the outstanding integrated services that Kaiser Permanente provides. In addition, Kaiser Permanente offers the opportunity to work with colleagues with broad interests and varied expertise, allowing for innovative collaboration and ongoing learning. Lastly, I thrive on the relationships that practicing psychiatry presents. Working alongside patients to achieve and maintain wellbeing by exploring the complexities unique to each of us remains the most rewarding part of my job.
Prior to joining Kaiser Permanente, I was an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the University of California, San Francisco where I maintain faculty status. I currently teach medical students at UCSF in the Brain, Mind and Behavior course, mentor UCSF psychiatry residents, and I am also working on research in global mental health education. In addition to my interests in general adult psychiatry, particularly mood and anxiety disorders, I have a long standing interest in global mental health and have spent time in east Africa developing a training elective for psychiatry residents and working directly with patients.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, listening to music, traveling, and appreciating everything outdoors that the bay area has to offer. Swimming in the summer and downhill skiing in the winter keep me active year round.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
