Welcome to My Internet Home Page
Hi! My name is Mohit Shahani, MD. I am a Kidney Specialist. Kidney Specialists evaluate and treat patients with acute kidney failure, chronic kidney disease, severe hypertension, chronic kidney failure requiring kidney replacement therapy (hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and kidney transplantation), recurrent kidney stones, inherited kidney disorders, cystic kidney disorders, and electrolyte disorders. My goal is to help you manage your kidney disease.
About Me
I was born in Bangalore, India and immigrated to the United States when I was four years old. I grew up in Fremont, CA and graduated from the oldest high school in California. After high school, I went to University of California, Davis and majored in Genetics. Go Aggies!
After college, I moved to Chicago for graduate school, medical school, residency, and fellowship. I enjoyed my time in the Midwest. Chicago is similar to San Francisco except for the weather. Even though I lived in Chicago, I am still a fan of the Oakland Raiders and San Francisco Giants.
I moved back to California and joined Kaiser Permanente in July 2005 because it is a patient-focused organization. Kaiser Permanente’s emphasis on preventive medicine and information technology is unique. I also have a large extended family that lives throughout the Bay Area. I enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking. Unfortunately, Southern Wisconsin and Northern Illinois are flat plus the weather is only decent for four months, so there are not too many opportunities to participate in outdoor activities.
My Philosophy of Care
My goal is to educate patients about kidney disease, so they can make informed decisions about their medical care. In order to provide the appropriate guidance, I will always work hard to keep up with the latest research in nephrology. You should be directly involved in your medical care and be allowed to make decisions regarding your medical care. Thank You for allowing me to be involved in your medical care.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
