Welcome to my home page.

I hope you find the information in my home page helpful.

In my home page you can find information and web links such as cancer support group meeting information, clinical trial, breast cancer treatment (adjuvant therapy, benefit and side effects of tamoxifen and aromatase inhibitors, and others. I have added information on chemotherapy drugs and their side effects in an alphabetical order. Other sources of information I have found very useful are NCCN (National Comprehensive Cancer Center) and NCI websites. They have treatment guidelines for patients both in English and Spanish. At the National Cancer Institute website you can find vast amount of information about cancer diagnsis and treatment, as well as clinical trials.

I want to assure you that, as your oncologist, I will do all my best to take the best care of you. If you have any questions or issues, please do not hesitate to let me know. You may e-mail me through secure messaging or call my office.

I thank you for choosing me as your oncologist.

About Me

I grew up in China. I received my medical degrees from Fujian Medical college and Peking Union Medical College. I moved to the United States to attend Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland where I earned a Ph.D. degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology in 1993. I then completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Dept. of Molecular Biology at Tularik, Inc. ( now part of Amgen, Inc.) in South San Francisco. After that, I completed my residency in internal medicine at the University of California at San Francisco affiliated St. Mary's Medical Center in San Francisco, followed by my medical oncology fellowship training in the Division of Oncology at Stanford University School of Medicine.

I was a Fellow of the Cure for Lymphoma Foundation and the Lymphoma Research Foundation of America. I have authored many scientific papers on oncology. I presented my recent research results on breast cancer in the annual meeting of American Society of Clinical Oncology held in Orlando, Florida, and the annual San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium in San Antonio, Texas, in 2005. I have recently published articles in journals such as Developmental Cell and the Journal of Immunology.

Prior to joining The Permanente Medical Group I received several awards for my cancer research including a Merit Award from the American Society for Clinical Oncology in 2002, and the Young Investigator Award in 2001.

I am also fluent in Mandarin.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
