Welcome to my home page, a website that my colleagues and I have developed to make it easier for you to interact with me and for me to take care of many of your healthcare needs. I'm eager to work with you to make your experience at Kaiser Permanente a positive one.

Hobbies and Interests

When not at work, I enjoy spending time with my wife and sons, playing with our dog and learning Spanish. I hold a faculty appointment as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the U.C. Davis, School of Medicine and spend some of my free time as a volunteer preceptor at Clinica Tepatí, a student-run clinic sponsored by the U.C. Davis School of Medicine. I also serve as volunteer faculty for the Defense Medical Readiness Training Institute at Fort Sam Houston, Texas and as an oral examiner for the American Board of Emergency Medicine.

Professional Background

I am an emergency physician who began his career in family practice. I joined Kaiser Permanente in July 2006 after retiring from a career in the United States Army. My service in the military included overseas assignments in Europe and the mid-east as well as ten years as faculty for military residency training programs in family practice and emergency medicine. I was attracted to the specialty of emergency medicine for the challenges of taking care of a broad variety of different types of patients and because the practice of emergency medicine allows me to make a difference in patients’ lives every day.

Roles and Responsibilities

In additional to my primary role as a emergency physician, I assist with our department’s educational programs and help supervise the emergency medicine residents from U.C. Davis who rotate through our department. I also serve as a member of the North Valley Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.

My Staff

The emergency department can be a frightening and sometimes frustrating place to be a patient. It is frequently very busy, noisy and the vast majority of emergency patients will never before have seen the doctors and nurses caring for them. Delays and interruptions are common, as more seriously ill and injured patients are seen. Please be reassured that despite what may at times seem a chaotic environment, the physicians, nurses and other emergency department staff are dedicated to providing you and your family members with the highest quality of care and service.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
