My Specialty and Why I Chose It

As a physician assistant in the Orthopedic Department, I assist surgeons during operative procedures and evaluate office patients. In the clinic I evaluate new consults to the orthopedic department, conduct pre-operative and routine follow up physical examinations, as well as follow patients after surgery. I feel honored to interact with highly skilled physicians and appreciate the opportunity to provide care to all Kaiser Permanente members who require orthopedic evaluation and treatment.

My Practice Philosophy

Orthopedic disorders and emergencies can provide quite a challenge to our members. Full recovery requires an integration of services and a real commitment from the patient. As an orthopedic physician assistant, I act as a communication link for providing a patient centered approach to care. Excellent patient education is essential in the successful treatment and recovery of our Kaiser Permanente members. As a patient advocate, I play a key role in ensuring patients have a full understanding of the implications of each option. I approach each patient recognizing his or her needs and uniqueness to provide an individualized plan of care.

My Credentials

Masters of Science Nova Southeastern University
Specialty Orthopedics
Board Certification Physician Assistant

My Tenure with Kaiser Permanente

I have been a Kaiser Permanente clinician since 2002 and have been a practicing Physician Assistant since 1994. In addition to my certification as a physician assistant, I am a registered nurse.

Why I Like Practicing Medicine at Kaiser Permanente

I have seen that an interdisciplinary approach to patient care within Kaiser’s integrated health care delivery system provides a level of medical care to our members that is unmatched in the private health care arena. Working with colleagues who are committed not only to treating the current health status of patients, but to improving the overall patient’s wellness, provides me with the environment to give each patient the best opportunity for healing and meeting wellness goals. Furthermore, the medical resources available to me through colleagues, specialists and information technology at Kaiser Permanente is beyond compare.

Professional Interests & Affiliations

My professional interests within orthopedics include treatment of sports medicine disorders and total joint replacement. I have always been interested in the nutritional aspects of disease treatment.

On a Personal Note. . .

Since graduating physician assistant training at U.C. Davis in 1994, I have worked in family practice, internal medicine, spine surgery, and now general orthopedics. Prior to my certification as a physician assistant, I was a registered nurse and a flight paramedic. During all of this rigorous training and practice, I have found the wonderful recreational diversion of fly-fishing. Looking out at the calm waters glistening in the sunlight renews my energies while reflecting on the importance of body and soul. As an avid reader, I take every opportunity to update my knowledge of orthopedics to better serve our members.
