Thank you for visiting my home page and giving me the opportunity to tell you a little about myself. I grew up in San Diego, California, and lived there until I went to medical school at UC Davis in 1987.

I was a Kaiser Permanente member long before I became a Kaiser physician, and the younger of my two children, who are both now adults, was born at the Kaiser hospital in San Diego.

Medicine is a second career for me, having been a plumbing contractor and running my own business for 12 years. I love being an Emergency Medicine physician, as it gives me the chance to take care of my patients at some of the most traumatic and stressful times of their lives. It is very rewarding to be able to give medical help and family support at the time they need it most.

Receiving the Cecil Cutting Leadership Award in 2008 was one of the greatest highlights of my career. Dr. Cutting was the epitome of a physician leader, whose innovative vision of a fully integrated healthcare system paved the way for the success of Kaiser Permanente. To be compared to somebody of his stature and legacy is extremely humbling and gratefully received.

My goal as a Kaiser Permanente emergency physician is to provide you with the best possible care, with a compassionate human touch. I want every one of my patients to receive the same treatment in our department that I would expect for my own family, friends, and myself. If you ever need to reach me or have any questions regarding emergency care or treatment, I can be reached at (916) 688-6986 or 688-2511.

When not working with patients in the Emergency Department, or doing administrative duties as the department chief, I enjoy playing golf, gardening, houseboating, or just taking long walks with my wife and our new labrador retriever, Leilani.

Thank you, and stay healthy and safe!

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
