My Biography

Joined Kaiser Permanente Medical Group: 1993

Personal Philosophy of Practice

I have chosen this profession because of my passion to help people, especially the needy. It was my primary goal before and after I came from my country where healthcare access was extremely limited. When I immigrated to US, I was trained in facilities where the primary goals of care were geared towards the patients’ healthcare rather than the financial interest. I trained at William Beaumont Army Medical Center in Texas and Kaiser Permanente in Los Angeles in conjunction with UCLA. I chose to continue the same goals & that is why I joined the Permanente Medical Group.

Practice at the TPMG

Since moving from the Los Angeles Kaiser Permanente Medical Center to South San Francisco, I have seen more and more changes in our system that support the physicians’ ability to continue to practice a high medical standard of care and more importantly, to personalize care. I have enjoyed the friendly, helpful and intelligent colleagues in the facility whose goals are the same across the board. The TPMG has emphasized the quality of care, ease of access to the patients and emphasizing new technology for the physicians including computerized data and records. The organization also encourages the physicians to get involved and support the community, especially those people who have no access to medical care.

Professional Interest

As the sub-speciality chief of the Nephrology Dept., it is my interest that all the physicians provide our patients the utmost overall care including convenience, safety and satisfaction of the patients, their family, and their caregivers. This is mostly coordinated by our highly experienced, passionate and caring case managers and medical assistants.

I am particularly interested in the studies pertaining to delaying the progression of CKD (chronic kidney disease) and maintaining a good quality of life of the patients on dialysis. It is also my interest to see my patients as a whole and be able to provide them the best care I can deliver.

Personal History

I was born and raised in the Philippines. I did my education and training both in the Philippines and the United States. I permanently migrated to US in 1987 and have since worked hard to be able to complete my training to be a kidney specialist.

Currently I enjoy being a wife and a mother of 2, Sami and Sabrina. One reason why I like working at Kaiser is that I am able to practice my profession and at the same time, spend a good amount of time taking care of my family. I believe that a very important element of life is to be able enjoy my family and see my children growing very closely. During my free weekends, We take the kids to places like the beach, the parks or traveling out of town.

I enjoy traveling, watching movies (if I can find time), eating out and going on cruises. I watch my health very closely by eating healthy and doing exercises. I have not played volleyball in years but it had been my sports since I was a kid.

Advice to Members

There are many excellent benefits a member can utilize. It is a matter of knowing the system. Oftentimes, members get frustrated simply because they are not aware of how or who to contact for their needs. If you have any questions at all, there is the membership department who is always willing to help. For our specific department, we the physicians, nurses, case managers and other supporting staff will try to assist you the best we can. The TPMG is committed on serving the members & personalizing their health care.

The Kaiser Permanente system is very well known nationwide in the field of health care delivery for emphasizing PREVENTIVE MEDICINE. What it means is to be able to prevent, detect and treat diseases at the earliest stage of discovery. Knowing these, I encourage the members to get a primary physician or caregiver, do at least a yearly physical check up, utilize and undergo through the recommended screening tests by your primary physicians.

As a Nephrologist, I take appointments by referral only. If you do not yet have a referral, please call our appointment/advice line at (650) 742-2100 to make an appointment with your general practitioner.

Our goal at Kaiser Permanente is to be your health plan of choice and deliver the quality medical care our members deserve. Thank you again for choosing Kaiser Permanente.
