Welcome
Since the early days of the epidemic, my special interest has been helping patients with HIV. I am the HIV Services Coordinator for Hayward, Fremont, and Union City and I coordinate a wonderful team of health care professionals dedicated to providing comprehensive care to our members living with HIV. Our team includes Drs. Klein and Jacobson, HIV Specialists; Claudia Debus, Medical Social Worker; Korenna Sinn and Kennette Yoshimura, Pharmacists; Deepika Rao, Dietitian; Lyn Lossow, HIV Benefits Counselor; Regina Dejong, Medical Assistant, and myself.
As the Health Educator on the team, I teach patients about HIV, so they can manage HIV rather than it managing them. I tell my patients that from day one we're a team. We are the coaches and they are the decision makers, and together we'll develop a plan to help them stay healthy over the long term. The first thing I want every patient to know is that there is hope.
Joining Kaiser Permanente in 1980, I became the first HIV test counselor for our facility and continue to oversee testing for the GSAA. Confidential HIV Testing is available to all Kaiser members through their primary care provider or the Health Education Department.
I co-chair the HIV Patient Care Committee for Kaiser Permanente's Northern California Region and serve on the Regional HIV Advisory Committee. Included on this web page are links to a number of articles I authored for the former HIV Update Newsletter.
I grew up in the Bay Area and am a single adoptive parent of a wonderful daughter from Guatemala. We have two small dogs. An avid Olympic specatator, I have attended three Olympic Games and plan to attend the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver. I am a member of Not In Newark and the Diversity Committee for Newark Unified School District/City of Newark.
Awards: 2003 Everyday Hero Award, Kaiser Permanente; 1999 Volunteer of the Year Award, Bay Area Adoption Services; 1999 Kaiser Permanente Star Award for Community Service.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
